When I was growing up and finally able to move out on my own, one of the first things I did was to send off my check for a monthly subscription to Playgirl Magazine. There were other options such as Freshmen, Men and Jocks, but those images were too hard core for my taste and seemed for focused on capturing every inch of the model’s anatomy. Playgirl on the other hand created a fictional profile for each model; the images provided context, contained sets, locations and even props and costumes to support the fantasy. There was a lot more effort and creativity that was evident in the centerfold spreads.
When a photographer has an exceptional model like Sean Patrick, he must rely solely on his creativity and artistry alone. Any sets, props or costumes would only detract from his physical perfection. This photoshoot is one of my all-time favorite examples of fitness photography featuring a beautifully proportioned, well-defined and uninhibited model. It is both artistic in its simplicity and elegant poses which are both natural and taught at the same time. Consider the stunning beauty of the four images below which are my favorites and are forever etched in my mind.
As a former professional photographer, I used to work with models from new discoveries with no experience to seasoned pros like Jakub Stefano whose perfect body does not have a bad angle. But the best images I ever took would came from the models who knew every muscle in their bodies and can instinctively vary their poses to put their best features forward. They were keenly aware of the lighting source and they would incorporate every aspect of their surrounding into the shots as if they part of an imaginary stage or set. Sean Patrick deftly uses the white walls as backdrop against his tanned body and dark features. He does not simply walk on the floors, but rather he uses his feet to sense and deliberate on the placement of his next steps. In doing so, the photographer has the opportunity to capture the extension of his extremities and the detailed, striated musculature of his thighs and his taught core. All without having to flex directly for the camera.
On rare occasions, magic can happen when both photographer and subject connect during the shoot, and a surge of energy and creativity erupts in rapid fire succession. If the two collaborators are in sync with their goals and creative vision for the shoot, the end result can yield images of exceptional beauty worthy of being called works of art.
But I know my musings on photography is not what you readers came here for. I first fell in love with these images upon their initial publication in Playgirl decades ago. I remember fantasizing about the extraordinary model. I wanted to see how his muscles flex and contract when he moved. I wanted to glimpse the sexual energy that was responsible for the beautifully engorged cock that would surely glisten and pulsate in real life. Many years later, I would get my wish as I recently discovered a short clip of Sean Patrick posing naked with his signature erection. He is a statue come to life and his dick really does glisten and throb as I imagined.
